Kwese TV secures exclusive FTA broadcast rights for the Olympic Games

Africa's new affordable premium sports destination Kwesé TV, a subsidiary of dynamic content distribution business Econet Media, once again managed to secure exclusive free-to-air (FTA) broadcast rights to one the world's most prestigious sporting events. Kwesé TV has signed a multi-year deal with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the broadcast of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Olympic Games in 2024 in a city yet to be selected.
Kwesé TV's broadcast rights include exclusive FTA rights for sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) as well as non-exclusive pay-tv rights for the same markets. Kwesé will broadcast the Olympic Games through the network's FTA sports channel Kwesé Free Sports - Africa's largest pan-African TV channel which boasts an impressive potential audience in excess of 100 million viewers and counting.
Starting with next year's Olympic Winter Games, African sports fans can catch all the action, highlights, analysis etc. from each of the events daily on Kwesé Free Sports, on the exclusive Olympic Games pop up channel on Kwesé TV's satellite bouquet service or on Kwesé's mobile app. Thanks to Kwesé's multi-screen broadcasting platforms a record number of sports lovers will be able to watch all the sporting highlights from the Olympic Games like athletics, swimming and gymnastics action, as well as the best from the Olympic Winter Games such as figure skating, cross-country skiing and ice hockey among many other disciplines LIVE on Kwesé.

Kwesé's exclusive rights for SSA also allow the broadcaster to sub-license Olympic programming to other FTA broadcasters in markets where it doesn't have a presence. Kwesé will deliver all of the live action from the 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024 Olympic Games to millions of African viewers at no cost.
As part of the agreement Kwesé will broadcast the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing as well as the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in a city which is yet to be announced on all Kwesé platforms including Kwesé Free Sports, Kwesé Sports 1 & 2, Kwesé.ESPN.com and the Kwesé App.
